Our Identity in Christ
Our Identity in Christ is an important topic, since its one of the first things we need to learn to advance in Gods Kingdom. We should be wary to remember that self centeredness is a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge because it was in the center of the Garden of Eden and it made Adam and Eve see their nakedness.
So when we are learning about our identities in Christ we must realise that Christ is our identity and image we are being transformed into, we need to continually fix our eyes on Him, to avoid going astray.
Jesus is the perfect role model to show us about walking in our identities. When he was being baptised the Father said, "this is my only begotten son, in whom I am well pleased". This confirmation helped keep him when he faced the Devil in the wilderness latter on.
Living on those words from His Father, he resisted the devil attack to eat bread. "Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God".
Adam and Eve were nourished spiritually with Gods word, and were tricked into eating fruit to replace it.
The next attack on Jesus was "If you are the Son of God"... this attack on his identity is the very thing Satan attacks us with, trying to make us not understand who we are in Christ. When we have our Christlike identity firmly established we can walk out in the power of the spirit like Jesus did.
So who are we?
We are made in the image of God, we have a body, soul and spirit. Our spirit man is in the spirit realm the invisible realm and it is seated in Heavenly places with Christ, outside of time. Our spirit is always in the presence of God and experiencing Gods glory and love and can hear the Father voice.
But our soul and body in this realm need to have renewing to experience the spirits realities. Our mind has to be continually renewed by the word of God. We can experience what our spirit man experiences by faith, faith is the substance in the spiritual realm for manifested or making things in the invisible realm visible in ours.
Transformation of our bodies and minds to be more heavenly will allows Heavens realities to come. Jesus did this on the mount of transfiguration... remember he was still a man when he changed on the mountain, he just showed what was really inside him.
By studying Christ in the Word of God we can see what he is changing us into, actually the Bible says we are changed as "behold him". This sort of points us to more than just looking at the Bible, its looking at his glory which we can't see unless God open ours spiritual eyes to see. Which is why Paul prayed this for believers, that the eyes of our understanding may be opened...
